In addition to International Partnerships and local partnerships, BUTAMED will implement its initiatives through the Dr. Rwebangila Memorial Hospital (RMH).
The RMH is a unique hybrid social enterprise investment between BUTAMED Foundation and its international partners. The facility will utilize the medical expertise of the local members as well that of international partners.
Dr. Rwebangila Memorial Hospital (RMH) in Bukoba has served over 72,000 outpatients since its inception. RMH is a response to high demand of health care services around Bukoba and Kagera region in general. The region has population of around four million. The facility has 50-beds.
The RMH stems out of the life-changing program known as CHAI (Community Health Awareness Initiative) in Tanzania that has been mobilizing women and providing women health education in rural communities using Community Health Workers (CHWs) since 2010.
The facility is a full-fledged health center able to admit up to 50 patients a day and providing both curative and preventive services on daily basis, 24/7and 365 days a year.
A majority of the facility’s advanced equipment were obtained through the support and generosity of the people of the USA especially in the State of Minnesota (See the list partners below).

RMH offers essential and critical state-of-the-art-medical services, as well as proper referrals whenever necessary. Our services include:
- Primary care medical services
- Adult Medicine
- Preventive services
- Laboratory services
- Imaging & Minor surgery
- Seasonal specialized services, such as: eye examination and glass prescriptions, obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology, pediatrics etc., from our partners in the USA as well as Tanzania.
- Preventive Services: These are provided for free through our strategic partnerships. The services include:
- Antenatal Care: Pregnant women are monitored in monthly basis where women get vaccinated and screened for diseases such syphilis, anemia, etc. and get treated if found with ailments.
- Vaccination: This service is provided to pregnant women and under-fives.
- Growth monitoring of under-fives.
- Free MCH (Maternal Child Health) services and other government mandated campaigns to the general public against malaria are done in collaboration with District Medical Office (DMO) which provides administrative materials and monitoring for the program.
- Out Patient Care: Provided 24/7 or all sort of common illnesses including minor accident patients.
- Inpatients Care: Equipped with 50 beds and modern equipment RMH will contribute greatly in alleviation of health care shortage. All rooms are self-contained (bathroom, toilets).
- Laboratory Services: The cutting-edge laboratory services are provided by highly trained lab technicians working in close collaboration with doctors. The lab is open 24/7 to in-patients.
Pharmaceutical Services: The Center will have a full service licensed pharmacy housed within the facility. This will conveniently serve the patients 24/7 at the same time add value and ensure revenue stream for
